Helping Hands of Goose Creek  supplies food for qualified clients on a non-permanent basis.Families or individuals can qualify for 6 monthly food visits or for one-time emergency food assistance. HHGC looks at several factors in the qualification process:

  • Initial Client Interview
  • Determine residency – Berkeley County residence located within ZIP Codes 29410, 29445,29456,29461 and 29483.
  • Income (based on State Guidelines)
  • Determine other sources of assistance
  • Aquire employment status
  • Employability status
  • Number of persons in the family
  • Age client/family members
  • Are any family members disabiled
  • Comparison of family situation to Federal poverty level

Clients are required to attend a class on Budget Preparation prior to their second visit.  The training is provided by the Trident Literacy Association and is taught at the HHGC office.  After the above has been determined the client is eligible for:

  • Food Pantry Distribution
  • Food Stamp Registration if Required
  • Referral Services
  • Special Projects
  • Money Management Training
  • Group Diabetic Support
  • Basic Computer/Internet Training
